Bone Densitometry
Bone Densitometry
bone densitometry is a safe and painless x-ray test that measures the density of your bones and determines if you suffer from osteoporosis, a condition characterized by a drop in bone mineral density.
The risk factors for osteoporosis are:
smoking
high consumption of alcohol and caffeine
a sedentary lifestyle
a diet low in calcium and vitamin D
a family history of osteoporosis
a history of fractures after minor trauma
low body weight or weight loss

Preparing for the bone densitometry exam

Before your exam, we will ask you: to inform us of any possibility of pregnancy to bring us the CD of images and the report of any x-rays of your spine that you may have had in another clinic during the 12 months preceding your appointment Here are the steps to follow to properly prepare for the exam: In the 14 days before your appointment, it is important to avoid any radiology or nuclear medicine examination requiring contrast media. Within 48 hours we will ask you to stop taking calcium tablets or vitamins that contain them (you may, however, drink and eat foods that contain calcium). Also, you will not be able to take your medications for osteoporosis. Before the exam, you will be able to eat normal meals.
